About the Project
Albayrak Arcade is a two-story inn arranged in the form of an arcade, which is the most important architectural element of the historical texture of the Kemeraltı district. With its arcade feature, it connects Havra Street to the historical area where the Synagogues are located.
It is located on Havra Street in Güzelyurt Neighborhood, Konak District, Izmir Province. One of its entrances opens to Havra Street, the other to 937 Street, which intersects Havra Street. The building is adjacent to Hevra, Sinyora (Giveret) and Los Foresteros Synagogues.
The building, which used to house shoemakers, has been vacant since the shoemakers moved to Işıkkent. Albayrak Arcade will be renovated while preserving its original architectural form and material texture reflecting the period it was built. A food market that will integrate with Havra Street will be created on the ground floor, and workshops for craftsmen and artists performing handicrafts specific to the region will be created on the first floor.
Architectural project studies are being prepared by Tevfik Tozkoporan Architecture. It is being designed as a multifunctional building located on Havra Street, the busiest shopping axis of Izmir.
Albayrak Arcade was purchased by TARKEM in 2019.
The existing building was demolished in 2021 for renovation. An archaeological rescue excavation was carried out on the parcel.
Cooperation Protocol concerning Albayrak Passage was signed with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
